Day 1. Haridwar To Barkot

The roads are mostly hilly, with several sharp bends, so careful driving is essential, especially during the rainy season.
Uttarkashi is not only a gateway to Gangotri Dham but also a revered spiritual hub in its own right. The town is home to several ancient temples and ashrams, most notably the Kashi Vishwanath Temple, which many pilgrims visit upon arrival. - Gangnani – Famous for its natural hot springs (Rishikund), where pilgrims often bathe before heading to the temple.

- Bhatwari – A small settlement often used as a rest stop.
Upon arrival at Gangotri, devotees visit the revered Gangotri Temple, built in the 18th century. Day 5. Uttarkashi To Phata

On Day 5 of the Chardham Yatra, pilgrims travel from Uttarkashi to Phata, a small town located near Guptkashi in the Rudraprayag district. Phata is one of the key helipad locations for helicopter services to Kedarnath, making it a popular base for those planning to reach Kedarnath Temple by air.
This stretch of the journey is long and challenging, taking 8 to 10 hours by road, but offers dramatic landscapes, river confluences, and quiet mountain roads. The preferred and relatively faster route for most pilgrims is via Lambgaon, Ghansali, and Tilwara. While the roads are motorable, they can be narrow and winding in some places, especially after Ghansali.
As you move toward Kund, the road begins to align along the Mandakini River, and the views open up to snow-covered Himalayan peaks. Phata is just 6–7 km ahead of Guptkashi, and many pilgrims choose it over Guptkashi for its proximity to Kedarnath helicopter boarding point.
Phata has developed in recent years with good pilgrim accommodations, restaurants, and helicopter booking counters. It’s recommended to arrive before sunset and prepare for the next day’s helicopter ride or road trek to Kedarnath.c

Day 8. Phata To Badrinath

The journey from Phata to Badrinath is a scenic and spiritually significant road trip through the Garhwal Himalayas. Badrinath is one of the four sacred Char Dham temples, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and located at an altitude of 3,300 meters.
After completing your Kedarnath Yatra from Phata, you will head north toward Badrinath Temple. The most common and beautiful route takes you from Phata to Guptkashi, then through Chopta (known as the “Mini Switzerland of India”) and onward to Gopeshwar. From there, the road connects to Joshimath, the last major town before Badrinath. The final 45 km stretch from Joshimath to Badrinath passes through winding roads, stunning valleys, and landslide-prone zones — so careful driving is essential.
Day 9. Badrinath To Haridwar

The first leg of the drive descends from Badrinath to Joshimath, a scenic stretch of about 45 km. From Joshimath, you’ll pass through key towns like Chamoli, Karnaprayag, and Rudraprayag, all known for their confluences and temples. As you move further, you’ll reach Srinagar (Garhwal) and then Devprayag, the sacred point where the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda merge to form the River Ganga.
After Devprayag, the route descends to the plains via Rishikesh, and finally reaches Haridwar, the spiritual city where pilgrims take a holy dip in the Ganga to conclude their divine journey.
